Moments of connection remind us about the importance of community. One group bringing joy to communities in Northern BC, wherever they go, is Desert Hills Ranch. A dedicated food supplier from Ashcroft, BC, they are committed to nourishing both body and spirit. Known for their generosity and vibrant energy, their visits to long-term care homes have become a cherished tradition. Each visit begins with a warm greeting and a donation of fresh fruits and vegetables. Working closely with our kitchen contractors, the bulk of the donations are incorporated into daily menus for meals and snacks, while some produce is set aside for residents to take home. This thoughtful process ensures that everyone benefits from the gift of healthy food.

Their impact goes far beyond just food. Desert Hills team members came to spend time with residents, sharing stories, dancing, and filling our long-term care homes with music and joy. These visits transformed ordinary days into celebrations, creating lasting memories and lifting spirits. Their efforts have reminded everyone involved that true wellness includes emotional and social connections.

“The residents of Laurier Manor were overjoyed with the delicious produce, energetic dancing, and contagious laughter,” said Samantha Lui, Senior Wellness Coordinator at Laurier Manor Assisted Living. “Both residents and staff alike were raving about this special visit for days!”

As we reflect on the new year, we hope to welcome Desert Hills Ranch back to our long-term care homes. Their continued commitment to spreading joy, nourishment, and moments of laughter and music inspire everyone involved. Their example reminds us that small acts of generosity can take root and grow into lasting memories!
