The Public Health Protection team has been an essential part of Northern Health’s COVID-19 pandemic response. The team helps ensure our communities are kept safe by providing education and enforcement of Public Health Orders.

Making staff wellness a priority

Understandably, the team has been under significant pressure and stress. That's why staff wellness has been a priority. To keep spirits up, the team has been focusing on team wellness activities such as newsletters, focused meetings, wellness training, and morale-boosting activities.

Team manager Carla says, “Our team works diligently to keep our Northern population safe. As enforcement officers, our role is to protect our communities through education and enforcement. As such, we aren’t always welcomed or received positively. However, we’re a small and dynamic team who are passionate about the health and safety of our communities. This team are some of the unsung heroes of the pandemic response, and it’s important to our leadership team that we protect the health of those staff who are protecting our communities."

The work of the Health Protection team

For those not familiar with the Health Protection team, their work includes everything from tobacco/vapour enforcement, to childcare and residential care licensing, to monitoring the safety of food premises, drinking water, and sewerage systems.

As a team of health enforcement officers, the Northern Health Public Health Protection team helps ensure our communities stay safe.

Thank you to the team for all they do!
