Northern Health is excited to have GetCheckedOnline launch in Dawson Creek. This is the first Northern Health community to be a part of GetCheckedOnline, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024.
What is GetCheckedOnline? It’s a website service, provided by the BC Centre for Disease Control, that lets people test for sexually transmitted infections and HIV without having to visit a doctor or primary care provider. It’s free and confidential!
How does it work? Simply go to the website and create an account. You’ll be required to answer some assessment questions to create a lab form. You’ll then take the form (printed or scanned from your phone) to a participating LifeLabs location. At the lab, you’ll be asked to give blood and/or urine samples, and you may be given a swab kit.
What about my results? You’ll get an email from GetCheckedOnline letting you know when all your test results have been entered into your account. If any of your results are positive or require followup, a nurse will contact you.
Since the start of this program in 2014, people have tested more than 19,000 times in BC. This year marks GetCheckedOnline’s 10th anniversary. This service is currently available at participating LifeLabs in Vancouver, Victoria, Langford, Duncan, Kamloops, Kimberley, Maple Ridge, Nelson, and now Dawson Creek.
With the arrival of the program in Dawson Creek, GetCheckedOnline is now offered in each of BC’s five health authorities.
