October is National Occupational Therapy Month, a time to celebrate the vital role occupational therapists (OTs) and rehabilitation assistants (RAs) play in supporting health and well-being across Northern Health. This month, we're shining a spotlight on one of our own - Bailey Davies.
Hi, my name is Bailey Davies, and I work part-time in the Quesnel Unit for Emergency Short Stay Treatment (QUESST), which provides acute stabilization for individuals experiencing a mental health or psychiatric crisis, including substance abuse and dependence. I’ve worked as an OT for 15 years and with the majority of my career in the community, specializing in brain injury and mental health treatment.
My family and I moved to Quesnel over a year ago from the lower mainland to change up our pace of life, and spend more time outdoors accessing all the wonderful opportunities that the North has to offer. I started working in QUESST in January 2025. Since then, I have really enjoyed collaborating with the team and introducing mental health-focused occupational therapy into our services. I developed a group activity schedule for the team and often help to facilitate these sessions. In addition, I conduct functional and cognitive assessments, and support patients with practical coping strategies.
I was originally drawn to occupational therapy because of its unique approach to understanding a person and what is meaningful to them. I love that occupational therapy focuses on working alongside individuals and helping them move towards engaging in activities that they deem important to them. Being an occupational therapist gives me the opportunity to be creative and use everyday life activities as therapy!
