University Hospital of Northern BC – Prince George is implementing full COVID-19 safety measures throughout the facility, in light of declared outbreaks on two inpatient units, and general rates of local COVID-19 activity.

Enhanced outbreak control measures are already in place on the Primary Care Medical, and Internal Medicine Units in response to the two, unrelated outbreaks. To further protect the health of patients, clients, staff and physicians, UHNBC is expanding measures to the entire facility, including all patient care areas and public spaces.

Northern Health is pleased to advise that a COVID-19 outbreak declared in early September at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George, is officially over. COVID-19 outbreak protocols are being lifted at the facility as the exposure risk period has now passed.

In total, there were 20 resident and three staff cases associated with the outbreak, and four additional resident cases were epidemiologically linked due to exposure with a confirmed case. Sadly, six residents passed away in connection with this outbreak, two of whom were epi-linked.

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Internal Medicine Unit (IMU) at University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George, following lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Seven patients have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the Internal Medicine Unit (IMU). Northern Health Public Health is closely monitoring for additional cases, and the facility is taking steps to protect the health of staff and those they care for, with enhanced outbreak control measures such as (but not limited to):

There has been an increase in overdose events in the community of Prince George. The reported substance is green and chalky.

This substance is highly toxic, causes heavy and prolonged sedation, and requires more naloxone to reverse. Overdoses are happening when the substance is smoked and injected.

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared an end to a COVID-19 outbreak on the inpatient unit (IPU) at Fort St. John Hospital.

In total since the outbreak was declared August 27, 2021 there were four patient and three staff cases of COVID-19, as well as one death of a patient who had tested positive in association with the outbreak.

Northern Health thanks patients and their families for their understanding and patience, and Fort St. John Hospital staff and physicians for continuing to provide excellent care during the outbreak period.

Four patients have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the outbreak, and monitoring and testing is underway to identify any additional cases among patients and staff.

Nine patients and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the outbreak, and monitoring and testing is underway to identify any additional cases.
