Northern Health encourages safe enjoyment of summer heat waves

For the next several days, high temperatures and humidex values are expected for much of Northern BC. Northern Health reminds all residents and visitors to be aware of the risks of too much heat or sun exposure.

Excessive heat exposure can lead to weakness, disorientation and exhaustion. In severe cases, it can also lead to heat related illness or heat stroke, also known as sunstroke. Heat stroke can be a life-threatening medical emergency.

There has been an increase in overdose events in the community of Prince George. The reported substance is DARK PURPLE, sold as “down or fentanyl”. COOKS UP ALMOST BLACK. This substance is highly toxic and may also be known as “Fire”.

COVID-19 outbreak – declared over - BC Hydro Site C project

Northern Health is pleased to announce that Medical Health Officers have declared an end to a COVID-19 outbreak, originally declared on April 28, 2021, among contracted workforces on the Site C hydroelectric dam project in Northeast BC.

In total, 56 lab-confirmed cases were associated with the outbreak (involving separate clusters of COVID-19 activity since March 2021). All of the cases have since recovered.

COVID-19 – Outbreak declared over – Heritage Manor II, Fort St. John

Northern Health is pleased to advise that a COVID-19 outbreak declared May 18, 2021 at the Heritage Manor II assisted living facility in Fort St. John, BC, is officially over.

There were a total of five lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 associated with the outbreak, involving residents of the facility. All of the residents have since recovered.

Northern Health would like to thank Heritage Manor II staff, residents and their families, for their patience, cooperation and support in recent weeks.

COVID-19 outbreak declared over – Quesnel reforestation operations (closure orders rescinded)

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared an end to a COVID-19 outbreak involving the operations of two Quesnel-based reforestation companies, originally declared May 20, 2021.

In total, ten lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 were associated with the outbreak at Dewan Enterprise LTD, and MIKEGROSITE Consulting LTD, operations in the Northern Health region. Sadly, one individual who had tested positive in association with the outbreak passed away from their illness.

COVID-19 – Rotary Manor, Dawson Creek

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak on a single unit at Rotary Manor in Dawson Creek following lab-confirmed cases among residents on the unit.

The outbreak declaration is limited to Rotary Manor’s Special Care Unit-South. Northern Health continues to take steps to protect the health of all Rotary Manor staff, residents and families. At the time of the outbreak declaration, testing has identified two COVID-19 cases. Sadly, one of the residents who had tested positive, has passed away.

COVID-19 outbreak – Update - BC Hydro Site C project – June 11

Ongoing monitoring and testing has not identified any additional COVID-19 cases in recent weeks in association with an outbreak declared by NH Medical Health Officers on April 28, 2021, among contracted workforces on the Site C hydroelectric dam project in Northeast BC.

June 11, 2021 update: To date, in association with this outbreak (involving separate clusters of COVID-19 activity since March 2021), there have been 56* lab-confirmed cases identified among various contractors. All of the cases have since recovered.
