Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Meadow House at Peace Villa long-term care facility in Fort St. John, following lab-confirmed cases among residents and staff on the unit. At the time of the outbreak declaration, testing has identified three residents and three staff who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Enhanced outbreak control measures are in effect at Peace Villa.
Northern Health is appealing to residents of Northeast BC to get immunized and make other COVID-19 precautions a priority, for their own safety and to reduce pressure on the region’s health care system.
The Northeast continues to experience significant COVID-19 activity and hospitalizations, particularly at Fort St. John, and Dawson Creek & District, Hospitals. Both facilities are seeing an increase in patients with confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19, in addition to the ongoing urgent care needs of area residents, resulting in increasingly longer waits to be seen.
During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Haisla Nation stepped forward to provide a $300,000 donation to Northern Health to ensure staff and physicians have the tools and equipment available to support them in the work they do.
Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared an end to a COVID-19 outbreak at Wrinch Memorial Hospital.
In total since the outbreak was declared on September 27, 2021, there were eight patient and two staff cases of COVID-19, as well as one death of a patient who had tested positive in association with the outbreak.
Northern Health thanks patients and their families for their understanding and patience, and Wrinch Memorial Hospital staff and physicians for continuing to provide excellent care during the outbreak period.
Ongoing monitoring and testing has identified additional COVID-19 cases associated with an outbreak declared October 14, 2021 on the Inpatient Unit at GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel.
To date, five patients and five staff have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the outbreak. None of the cases are considered active (all are recovered).
Ongoing monitoring and testing has identified additional COVID-19 cases associated with an outbreak declared October 19, 2021 on the Inpatient Unit at Bulkley Valley District Hospital (BVDH) in Smithers.
To date, five patients have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the outbreak; sadly, one of those patients has passed away.

The outbreak declaration does not include the Maternity section of the BVDH Inpatient Unit, at this time.
At the time of the outbreak declaration, testing had identified four inpatients who have tested positive for COVID-19. One of the outbreak-associated patients has passed away, and Northern Health offers condolences to their family, friends and caregivers.
Ongoing monitoring and testing has identified additional COVID-19 cases associated with an outbreak declared at Wrinch Memorial Hospital on September 27, 2021.
To date, eight patients and two staff have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the outbreak. The majority of cases are now considered recovered (no longer active cases). Sadly, one patient who had tested positive has passed away, and Northern Health extends condolences to the family, friends and caregiver of this individual.
