It’s that time of year again when the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) puts the call out for nominations to the annual BC Health Care Awards. These awards recognize innovative and inspiring teams and individuals who go above and beyond to deliver health care in BC.

Last year, I was pleased to help celebrate two important recognitions for Northern Health staff.

Northern Health received an Award of Merit in the Top Innovation category for the NH Trauma Dashboard, led by Jordan Oliver and supported by Dr. Waqar Haque, Jaimini Thakore, Lexine Heppner, Beth Ann Derksen, and Kristy Zurowski. The development of this dashboard was a partnership between Northern Health, UBC’s Business Intelligence Research Group, and Trauma Services BC.

The dashboard tracks information about trauma incidents and care, such as transportation issues and trends, to help support our frontline health care teams. Rural health care has unique challenges and as such, requires innovative solutions, like this important project.

Additionally, Lexie Gordon was named the 2019 Health Care Hero for Northern Health. Lexie is our Quality Improvement Lead for the Northeast. Lexie has worked tirelessly to ensure that the patient experience is a part of the conversation that contributes to quality improvement. Her passion for what she does makes her very deserving of this recognition!

I encourage all Northern Health staff to consider projects or people around you who exemplify inspiration, innovation, or excellence and put their name forward to the BC Health Care Awards! Nominations are open until Friday, March 20.
