In 2023, Kali joined NH as a volunteer, first at Peace Villa Long Term Care as a Social Engagement volunteer, and then at the Fort St. John Medical Clinic as a Growth Monitor Volunteer, contributing an impressive 77 volunteer hours.
Thinking back over her volunteer time, Kali reflected, “I’ve always been passionate about health care. I wanted to make a difference for people.”
Now that Kali has joined the Northern Lights College dual credit Health Care Assistant Program, she’s busy doing her clinical practice at Peace Villa, and is one step closer to her dream of working in health care.
“It’s so nice to be able to brighten the day for others,” said Kali. “At Peace Villa, I could be that person who listens and converses with residents and makes a difference in their day.”
Volunteering is a great way to get started exploring a career. Youth volunteers at NH get to interact with various aspects of health care and see what’s involved. “It really opened my eyes,” said Kali. “To be there and experience it firsthand was very affirming.”
Happy National Volunteer Week to all the volunteers like Kali who are making a difference in the lives of clients across Northern Health. Thank you for your dedication and compassion!
