Emergency department services at Fort Nelson General Hospital are resuming on Monday, May 27, as community members begin to return following the Parker Lake wildfire evacuation.
Emergency department services at Fort Nelson General Hospital are resuming on Monday, May 27, as community members begin to return following the Parker Lake wildfire evacuation.
Fort Nelson General Hospital has been safely evacuated and patients relocated to Northern Health facilities in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek. Fort Nelson General Hospital is currently closed, and staff have also safely left the community due to the Parker Lake wildfire evacuation order for the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality.
Fort Nelson and area residents are advised that Fort Nelson General Hospital is closed effective immediately, due to the expanded evacuation orders resulting from wildfire activity in the region.

Northern Health’s Chief Medical Health Officer is recommending revaccination for approximately 1,575 more individuals immunized in Terrace, Stewart and surrounding First Nations communities between October 2022 and September 2023.
In October 2023, Northern Health and the BC Centre for Disease Control began investigating variances in temperature records for vaccines stored at the Terrace Health Unit. That investigation, which recently concluded, identified additional lots of vaccine which were potentially stored at temperatures above the accepted range.

There has been an increase in drug poisoning/overdose events in Terrace. Overdoses have been linked to smoking a purple substance sold as “down” causing prolonged sedation and requiring many doses of Naloxone to reverse.
