There has been an increase in overdoses in Prince George. Overdoses may be linked to a brown and pink substance sold as DOWN, both testing positive for high concentrations of fentanyl and benzodiazepines causing sudden overdose and requiring a higher number of naloxone dosages.
People with serious mental health challenges in Terrace and the surrounding communities are benefiting from better care at the new Seven Sisters facility at Mills Memorial Hospital.
“People living with ongoing mental-health challenges need dedicated care in a space equipped to meet their daily needs as they work on their long-term recovery,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister for Mental Health and Addictions. “This newly expanded facility in Terrace will benefit patients, families, and the entire community by helping more people get the help they need to lead their best lives.”

Prince George's New Year's Baby is a girl
Northern Health is pleased to announce that the first baby of 2024 in the North was born in Prince George and it’s a girl. Baby Holland was born at the University Hospital of Northern BC on January 1st at 1:04 am to mom and dad Amy and Jaden Janzen of Burns Lake, weighing in at six pounds, eight ounces.
Baby Holland is her parent’s first child.
Northern Health’s Chief Medical Health Officer is recommending revaccination for approximately 425 people immunized in Terrace, Stewart and surrounding First Nations communities between October 2022 and September 2023.
The Northern Health Connections program will run on a modified schedule starting December 23, leading up to an annual holiday and maintenance break that takes place each year at this time.
NH Connections provides transportation for clients travelling to non-emergent health services outside their home communities. A variety of routes connect communities across northern BC, along with service to Vancouver. Demand for the service typically drops over the holiday season as fewer people book health care appointments.
More people in Prince George will have access to long-term care as Providence Living and Northern Health prepare to build a new care home with 200 beds.
Providence and Northern Health have signed an agreement to build a long-term care home that will add 200 beds in Prince George at 6500 Southridge Ave. Providence, in partnership with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Prince George, is contributing the land. This is the first new long-term care facility to be built in Prince George in 15 years.
