Northern Health has released its hand hygiene compliance reports for quarter 1 (2019-2020).

A review of the Northern Health services located in the downtown area of Prince George has recently been completed. The report provides recommendations that will improve the care that people will receive through those services.

Northern Health is pleased to announce that IV cancer treatment on Haida Gwaii is expected to resume in late October 2019, following a temporary suspension due to recruitment challenges.

A pharmacy technician has now been successfully recruited to the Haida Gwaii Cancer Care team, and existing staff have received additional training to support both the service resumption, and improved sustainability in providing IV cancer treatment to Haida Gwaii residents.

BC Health Authorities and the BC Ministry of Health are issuing a public service announcement for persons considering undergoing needle-free filler treatments. These procedures use a pressurized pen to insert hyaluronic acid fillers into the skin without the use of needles or injections.

While parents and guardians are making preparations to ensure their kids have another successful year at school with pens, books and binders, they are reminded to keep in mind the importance of immunization for their children.

The new mandatory immunization reporting requirement increases the ability of public health to respond during an outbreak by quickly identifying those who are under-and unimmunized. It also encourages parents to ensure their child’s immunizations are up to date.

Seniors in northern B.C. will benefit from new programs to address social isolation, nutrition needs and active movement, through new funding to three northern community organizations.

“We are making investments into community-based seniors’ services in every corner of the province,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. “This includes transportation and social inclusion programs to help seniors stay active in the community and engaged in community programs that supports healthy aging and quality of life.”

The Ministry of Health is supporting improved transportation for seniors to help them maintain meaningful social connections and independence in their local communities.

The Province is providing approximately $1.23 million through regional health authorities to 13 community organizations throughout British Columbia for projects that improve transportation services for seniors.

Community groups will purchase 12 buses and vans and make other improvements to existing transportation services for seniors to help them age in place, stay physically active and socially engaged.

The Government of British Columbia is partnering with the City of Prince George and Northern Health on an innovative project that would bring together new affordable housing and health-care services to support people in Prince George.

The proposed mixed-use development would be located on First Avenue at the current location of NR Motors.​

The proposed project is in an early phase of planning. A municipal rezoning process is planned for fall 2019, offering opportunities for stakeholders and the community to provide input.
