Northern Health region New Year’s Baby born in Prince George

Northern Health is pleased to announce that the first baby born in 2020 in the north is a baby girl, born in Prince George!

Baby Aubrey Nellis was born at University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George this morning at 12:21 a.m., to parents Tiffany and Clayton Nellis, of Prince George - weighing in at seven pounds, 13 ounces.

Aubrey is also welcomed to the world by big brothers Jayvin Logan, 14, and Hayden Logan, 11.  

The first baby born in British Columbia in 2020 was a girl, delivered at Fraser Health’s Royal Columbian Hospital, at 12:01 a.m. today.

Local businesses advised to watch for “Healing Hands” book donation requests

Northern Health (NH) has received reports of a company allegedly soliciting donations from Northern BC businesses on behalf of local hospitals, for a “Healing Hands” book to be donated to children in hospital.

NH would like to advise local businesses and others across the North that the health region is not affiliated with or endorsing this book.

NH advises businesses receiving phone calls requesting donations to check very carefully about the origin of such solicitations before making a donation.

IV cancer treatment resuming on Haida Gwaii

Northern Health is pleased to announce that IV cancer treatment on Haida Gwaii is expected to resume in late October 2019, following a temporary suspension due to recruitment challenges.

A pharmacy technician has now been successfully recruited to the Haida Gwaii Cancer Care team, and existing staff have received additional training to support both the service resumption, and improved sustainability in providing IV cancer treatment to Haida Gwaii residents.

Make immunization reporting part of the back-to-school routine

While parents and guardians are making preparations to ensure their kids have another successful year at school with pens, books and binders, they are reminded to keep in mind the importance of immunization for their children.

The new mandatory immunization reporting requirement increases the ability of public health to respond during an outbreak by quickly identifying those who are under-and unimmunized. It also encourages parents to ensure their child’s immunizations are up to date.
