COVID-19 – Outbreak declared at Bulkley Valley District Hospital, Smithers – Inpatient Unit

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Inpatient Unit at Bulkley Valley District Hospital (BVDH) in Smithers, following lab-confirmed case among patients.

The outbreak declaration does not include the Maternity section of the BVDH Inpatient Unit, at this time.

At the time of the outbreak declaration, testing had identified four inpatients who have tested positive for COVID-19. One of the outbreak-associated patients has passed away, and Northern Health offers condolences to their family, friends and caregivers.

COVID-19 –Wrinch Memorial Hospital outbreak update

Ongoing monitoring and testing has identified additional COVID-19 cases associated with an outbreak declared at Wrinch Memorial Hospital on September 27, 2021.

To date, eight patients and two staff have tested positive for COVID-19 in association with the outbreak. The majority of cases are now considered recovered (no longer active cases). Sadly, one patient who had tested positive has passed away, and Northern Health extends condolences to the family, friends and caregiver of this individual.

COVID-19 – Outbreak declared at GR Baker Memorial Hospital, Quesnel – Inpatient Unit

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Inpatient Unit at GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel, following lab-confirmed case among patients on the unit. At the time of the outbreak declaration, testing has identified two inpatients who have tested positive for COVID-19, as well as two staff.

Monitoring and testing is underway to identify any additional cases.

COVID-19 outbreak – declared over - BC Hydro Site C project

Northern Health is pleased to announce that Medical Health Officers have declared an end to a COVID-19 outbreak, originally declared on August 16, 2021, among contracted workforces on the Site C hydroelectric dam project in Northeast BC.

There have not been any newly identified cases associated with the outbreak clusters since September 15, 2021. In total, 92 lab-confirmed cases were associated with the outbreak (involving separate clusters of COVID-19 activity since August 2021). All of the cases have since recovered.

University Hospital of Northern BC reinstating facility-wide COVID-19 measures

University Hospital of Northern BC – Prince George is implementing full COVID-19 safety measures throughout the facility, in light of declared outbreaks on two inpatient units, and general rates of local COVID-19 activity.

Enhanced outbreak control measures are already in place on the Primary Care Medical, and Internal Medicine Units in response to the two, unrelated outbreaks. To further protect the health of patients, clients, staff and physicians, UHNBC is expanding measures to the entire facility, including all patient care areas and public spaces.

UPDATE - COVID-19 outbreak declared over at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George

Northern Health is pleased to advise that a COVID-19 outbreak declared in early September at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George, is officially over. COVID-19 outbreak protocols are being lifted at the facility as the exposure risk period has now passed.

In total, there were 20 resident and three staff cases associated with the outbreak, and four additional resident cases were epidemiologically linked due to exposure with a confirmed case. Sadly, six residents passed away in connection with this outbreak, two of whom were epi-linked.
