With the excitement of Halloween, it can be easy to forget common road safety rules. Here are some important tips to remember as you take your ghosts and goblins out trick or treating this year:
- Add reflective tapes or decals to dark costumes
- Adjust costumes to avoid tripping hazards
- Choose face paint instead of masks to help with vision (especially peripheral vision)
- Avoid crossing streets between parked cars; instead, use crosswalks, street corners, or intersections
- Ensure your child looks left and right before crossing roads
- Face traffic so oncoming vehicles can see you
- Use a flashlight to help see better and to help others see you
- Plan a safe route to help avoid busy roads
