Susanne Watson moved to Northern BC with my family over 20 years ago and made her home in Smithers, BC. Coming into rural practice as a relatively new physiotherapist was daunting and the opportunities were limited. However, she found this allowed her to work broadly across many practice settings and gave her a strong foundation and broad understanding of rural and remote practice. Susanne developed a passion for primary and community care and a desire to improve the range and quality of services that communities could access in the North. Over the past 10 years, she have been able to focus on this passion through my role as the professional practice lead for allied health professionals. Susanne is currently pursuing her doctorate in rehabilitation and health leadership as there is still much work to do to ensure that people within our healthcare system have access to the full range and scope of skills and knowledge held by allied health professionals.
