Esther Alonso-Prieto

Dr. Esther Alonso‑Prieto is the Lead of the Northern Health Ethics Service, where she provides strategic and operational leadership for ethics consultation, education, and capacity‑building across the organization.  

She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and in the School of Nursing at the University of Northern British Columbia. 

Dr. Alonso‑Prieto holds a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Louvain, Belgium, and has completed additional postgraduate training in healthcare ethics, and adult education. Her career as a clinical researcher spans multiple fields. 

In parallel with her clinical research background, Dr. Alonso‑Prieto has developed expertise in healthcare ethics. Her current interests focus on rural health ethics, moral distress and moral empowerment, and the ethical dimensions of technology use in healthcare systems.
