The Northern Health Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) podcast Qualitycast North continues with its second season.
In this episode we explore an inspiring success story that evolved from community action. Dr. Paul Winwood shares the history of the Northern Medical Program (NMP) and describes the various ways the program has worked to ensure quality education, performance, and learning experiences for students. We discuss how the profile of medical learners has changed to expand the diversity of physicians entering medical practice, and how the program has influenced physician retention in the North, especially in Indigenous communities.
Dr. Paul Winwood is the Regional Associate Dean of the NMP, a position he has held for over 10 years. Originally from the United Kingdom, Dr. Winwood settled in Prince George to practice gastroenterology, academic medicine, and provide leadership to the NMP. He loves the community and enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, skiing in the winter and boating in the summer.
