The Prince George COVID-19 immunization clinic celebrated a milestone today, surpassing 50,000 vaccine dosses administered at the Prince George Civic Centre.

Julie Dhaliwal, NH Director of Community Services, reflects on the beginning of the clinic and what this milestone means for Prince George:

“It’s a very exciting day. I think back to February when we were planning for a vaccine clinic and discussing our lease with the City of Prince George (who have been amazing partners) and we have come so far. We started our soft launch on March 15th and we have been building our capacity as the vaccine supply increased. As we were creating appointments it was hard to imagine getting to a place where we were vaccinating over a thousand people a day. We’ve been able to accomplish that and run the clinic like clockwork and that’s because there have been incredible partnerships.
There have been so many people to help us have a successful clinic: First Nations Health Authority, Central Interior Native Health, Lheidli T’enneh Health, Prince George Native Friendship Centre, the City of Prince George, Canadian Red Cross, and Northern Health Indigenous Health. Lots of incredible people coming forward to support and offer ways we can improve and create a smooth clinic experience for the people of Prince George.
I feel very proud getting to 50,000 as we look at BC’s restart plan and I am happy we have been able to contribute to those efforts.”

Penny Anguish, NH Chief Operating Officer of the Northern Interior, shares in the excitement of reaching this level of immunization:

“We are proud to have achieved this milestone - the partnerships and teamwork have been incredible. The COVID-19 vaccine campaign has been a rapidly changing situation and no matter what expectations have been thrown at the team who are making this all happen, they are delivering what is needed and have created a consistently positive experience for those receiving their vaccine. The community of Prince George is making good progress in the overall immunization rate - we still have work ahead of us and this milestone is a great example of how far we have come.”

First dose walk-in appointments starting on Friday, June 11

By the end of today, the clinic will have surpassed 50,000 doses, just over 44,500 of those were first doses. With this exciting milestone comes the addition of walk-in appointments starting on Friday, June 11. Walk-in appointments will be for first dose only, and there will be 66 slots available per day.

Thank you to everyone who has made this clinic such a success in Prince George!
