May 19 is BC Family Doctor Day. This day gives us a chance to acknowledge and thank the family physicians, residents, and medical students in our province.
Today we have the privilege of celebrating the importance of family doctors and primary care teams in our health care system. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues after more than two years, unprecedented times have become the new status quo. And all the while, BC family doctors keep going. They work long days and nights, hold the hands of patients and their loved ones while continuing to care for them in their times of need, all while making personal sacrifices to ensure the health and well-being of our Northern communities. Family physicians are integral to keeping our communities safe both during a global pandemic, and as we ease into post-pandemic times.
On BC Family Doctor Day, please take time to recognize and celebrate BC doctors and their contributions to their patients and communities, and to Northern Health as a whole. What they do is complex, difficult, and important. Thank you, BC doctors, for your tireless devotion to your calling, your continued commitment to the collaborative vision that strengthens our communities, and your devoted care of your patients and their families.
