Emergency Preparedness Week
Know your local hazards to better prepare for an emergency.

Emergency Preparedness Week (May 7-13) is a 25-year national public awareness event. Supported by Public Safety Canada, Northern Health and Health Emergency Management BC (HEMBC) work closely with provincial and federal emergency management organizations, Indigenous organizations, and non-governmental organizations to support emergency management activities at all levels.

This year’s theme is Be Prepared, Know Your Risks, and each day, we will spotlight a hazard along with helpful tips and additional information to help you prepare for that type of emergency. We’ll cover floods, landslides, tsunamis, wildfires, and power outages. There is a potential for all these hazards in Northern BC, so it’s important to understand your area’s local hazards, as well as sources of local emergency information.

For more information on emergency preparedness, visit the Government of BC website, or for info on Emergency Preparedness Week, visit the Government of Canada website.
