Protecting children against childhood illness and ensuring they have a healthy future is the focus of the annual Kindergarten Health Fair for local children entering Kindergarten in September 2018. The free program will be running May 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2018 at the Smithers Public Health Unit.

Sponsored by Northern Health, the circuit provides a one-stop venue for immunization; vision, dental and hearing screenings, as well as injury prevention and nutritional information. Parents are offered further support if their child is found to be in need.

Providing health services and health information are part of a comprehensive school health approach, which addresses all areas of health through education, policies, community partnerships and the surrounding school environment. Children can reach their full potential as learners when their physical, emotional, and mental health is at its best.

Approximately 150 kindergarten children and their guardians are expected to attend the free Kindergarten Health Fair. The event helps young children get off to a healthy start with their school career, so they can effectively learn as much as possible about the world around them.
