COVID-19 UPDATE – BC Hydro Site C project

Northern Health
Information Bulletin

Ongoing monitoring and testing has identified additional COVID-19 cases associated with an outbreak declared by NH Medical Health Officers on August 16, 2021, among contracted workforces on the Site C hydroelectric dam project in Northeast BC.

To date, there have been 92 lab-confirmed cases in several clusters of COVID-19 activity amongst primarily unvaccinated workers in association with this outbreak, and just two cases are currently considered active. There have not been any newly identified cases associated with the outbreak clusters since September 15, 2021.

Enhanced infection control measures remain in place to limit the potential for ongoing transmission. Earlier this month, the Site C project’s onsite medical clinic initiated the use of rapid testing for enhanced case and contact management of positive cases. This includes the testing of asymptomatic workers to identify and stop the transmission of COVID-19. This rapid testing is being done under the direction of the Northern Health Authority.

To date, nearly 2,000 onsite workers have received a first dose through the project’s medical clinic and about 1,500 onsite workers have received a second dose. These figures do not include workers that have been vaccinated outside the project through their local health authority.
