Ongoing monitoring and testing has identified additional COVID-19 cases associated with an outbreak declared by NH Medical Health Officers on February 10, 2020, at the Pretium Resources Brucejack Mine north of Stewart, BC.
March 8 update: To date, there have been 51 laboratory-confirmed cases associated with the outbreak (an increase from 42 in February 19th update). There is a single active case, currently in self-isolation at the main Brucejack Mine camp.
Sadly, one individual who had tested positive in association with this outbreak has died, and Northern Health expresses its condolences to the individual’s family, friends and colleagues.
Northern Health Medical Health Officers declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Pretium Resources Brucejack Mine north of Stewart, BC, after finding evidence of COVID-19 transmission among employees and contractors at the underground gold mine. There have been no new outbreak-associated cases since late February, however NH Public Health and on-site health services continue to monitor for any additional cases.
