COVID-19 – Outbreak declared at University Hospital of Northern BC – Rehab Unit

Northern Health
Information Bulletin

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Rehabilitation Unit at the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George, following a single, lab-confirmed, patient case of COVID-19.

Monitoring and testing is underway to identify any additional cases, and at this point there is no evidence of ongoing transmission on the unit. NH public health recommends any recently-discharged clients self-monitor for COVID 19 symptoms, and to seek testing if symptoms develop.

This is the third COVID-19 outbreak declaration for a unit at UHNBC, including one (precautionary) outbreak that has been declared over. The previous declarations were for:

  • Internal Medicine Unit (IMU) – originally declared December 29, 2020. To date, 10 patients and 11 staff have tested positive for COVID-19; one patient death has also been associated with this outbreak
  • Family Medicine Unit (FMU) – originally declared December 3, 2020, and ended December 16 after no further cases were identified in association with the original lab-confirmed cases

Public health officials continue to actively monitor and follow up all laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff and patients at University Hospital of Northern BC.
