COVID-19 Outbreak declared over at University Hospital of Northern BC – Internal Medicine, Primary Medical Units

Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared an end to two COVID-19 outbreaks on the Primary Care Medical (PCMU), and Internal Medicine (IMU) Units (PCMU) at the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George.

Since the outbreak was declared on PCMU on September 24, 2021, 20 patients and nine staff tested positive in association with the outbreak. Two patients who had tested positive, passed away.

Since the outbreak on IMU was declared October 4, 2021, 14 patients and two staff tested positive in association with the outbreak, and two patients who had tested positive passed away.

There have been no new cases associated with either outbreak, since mid-October.

Northern Health extends condolences to the families, friends and caregivers of the patients who passed away. NH also wishes to thank the hardworking nurses, staff and physicians who have continued to provide excellent care in these challenging circumstances.

Northern Health Public Health continues to actively monitor and follow up all laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff and patients at any NH facilities.
