COVID-19 outbreak – declared over - BC Hydro Site C project

Northern Health
Information Bulletin

Northern Health is pleased to announce that Medical Health Officers have declared an end to a COVID-19 outbreak, originally declared on August 16, 2021, among contracted workforces on the Site C hydroelectric dam project in Northeast BC.

There have not been any newly identified cases associated with the outbreak clusters since September 15, 2021. In total, 92 lab-confirmed cases were associated with the outbreak (involving separate clusters of COVID-19 activity since August 2021). All of the cases have since recovered.

NH Medical Health Officers, Site C and its contractors, and WorksafeBC continue to work closely to monitor for any future clusters of COVID-19 activity on the project.

A number of enhanced infection control measures such as mandatory mask wearing, physical distancing on worksites and the use of rapid testing for case and contact management will remain in place at Site C, indefinitely. BC Hydro also recently announced a vaccine policy for its employees and contractors, including workers on the Site C project.
