COVID-19 outbreak at LNG Canada Project site – Kitimat – Update #6

Northern Health
Information Bulletin

As of Friday, December 11, 56 employees associated with the declared outbreak at the LNG Canada Project Site in Kitimat, BC, where JGC Fluor (JFJV) is the prime contractor, have tested positive for COVID-19 (no change since the December 9 update).

A single case remains active (55 are considered recovered). Self-isolation requirements for the 55 recovered individuals have ended, and there is no one isolating at the project site.

The outbreak was originally declared on November 19, 2020. The date of last potential exposure at the project site (the last date any potentially infectious case was on site, before testing positive for COVID-19), was November 26th.

Northern Health Public Health, LNG Canada, and JGC Fluor are encouraged that no new cases have been reported since December 2, 2020; enhanced control measures will continue at the project site, including on-site screening of employees, to protect the health of all staff.

The outbreak will only be declared over once NH public health is confident there is no further transmission of illness. NH public health will monitor closely, and the outbreak will be declared over if there are no further cases after two 14-day incubation periods from the last potential exposure date (Nov. 26).

This will be the final regular update regarding total case counts, recoveries and isolations, pending any additional cases.
